Things to be considered in Extension Ladder Tie off requirements

Ladders have always been a convenient and easy way to perform tasks which enable a person to reach high elevated places as ceilings of the room. Ladders have been used since ages and still serve to carry out important tasks. In houses ladders are used for cleaning or painting the ceilings and reaching places which are difficult to access. In factories and warehouses ladders are needed for different purposes such as workers used ladders to reach rooftops to perform installation and maintenance work.

The design and functionality of ladders has grown over the years now there are modern type of ladders used known as the extension ladders. Extension ladders as the name implies are ladders that can extended at variable lengths and used for desirable heights. They are also called portable ladders and consist of two section of railing that move along the brackets and can be adjusted at required height. Although ladders are easy to perform various task but they are not entirely safe. Fall from ladders and getting injured is one of the most common accident. Extension ladder tie off requirements is very much necessary to prevent workers from injury which can vary from minor bruises to fractured bones.

The things needed to consider in extension ladder tie off requirements include

Firstly finding a stable, flat and solid ground where ladder can be placed.
As extension ladders are not self-supporting so they should be placed against solid structure like          walls which can withstand the pressure of the intended load
The ladders should be tied at the bottom to provide stability
The ladders should also be tied at the top so it is easy for worker to climb with tools
The ladders should be extended at least three feet more from the top of the place they are tied

Things to keep in mind while tying off extension ladders

Extension ladders as the name implies are ladders that can be extended or adjusted to suit your needs. Extension ladders have two sections that operate in brackets which allow them to be adjusted at variable lengths. These ladders are also known as portable ladders. The ladders cannot stand alone so require a stable structure that can provide support and sustain the load.

Ladders generally are used to perform various tasks at home and factories but are considered dangerous as they are open and exposed. In ladders it is common that ladder may swing and sway with a person’s weight and result in fall. Fall from ladders results from minor to sever injuries so necessary safety measures must be taken before using them. Extension ladder tie off requirements are designed to reduce injuries that workers may suffer while working.

A suitable extension ladder must be selected according to weight of the person and the weight of all the tools, materials and intended load. Extension ladder tie off requirements include workers to tie off ladders at the top for firmness and security and tie off at the bottom to maintain ladder stability and prevent ladder to sway due to weight. The extension ladders must extend three feet above the roof or platform. When ascending or descending the worker must face the ladder and hold the ladder rails firmly to prevent from losing balancing. Workers are also said to make sure that the ladder is erected on solid, firm ground at right angle and supported by a strong, rigid structure.

Workers are required to inspect safety measures, detect corrosions of the ladders and identify the usual wear and tear of ladder rungs, rails and other loose components. At all times workers must ensure that the ladder is placed away from power lines and wires.
